Happy Fantastic Friday, another [FRAME] is upon us. This weeks selection is from Jaclyn and Brett's Wedding [featured here] and is one of my all-time favorites — a Father's First Meet. It was still morning and Jaclyn had just gotten into her dress and was looking incredible. We took her outside the church where she had an amazing first meet with Brett filled with hugs and maybe a few tears. There was a little time to kill, so we worked close to the ceremony site and did some quick portraits before things got underway. After a few minutes, we headed inside the church to make the final preparations for the ceremony. Suddenly, Jaclyn turned to me and said "I want to do a first meet with my Dad, he hasn't seen my dress yet and I really wanted to have our own first meet, can we do that?"
My response, "Absolutely!"
I loved the idea immediately. In fact, up to that point, I had never seen this done, which was amazing considering the number of weddings I'd done. No one else had done a formal first meet with their father. So, we began talking to plan it out and ended up finding a nice room in the back of the church to put Jaclyn. We had arranged for her to be facing the doorway when her father walked in and I would be covertly shooting from a hallway that was connected to the back of the room. The stage was set. Her mother went to get him and we all took our positions. Soon, we heard a subtle knock on the outside of the door. In a slightly nervous voice Jaclyn called, "Come in." The door slowly opened...
"WOW!" her dad exclaimed as he saw his beautiful daughter in her dress for the first time. He began to circle her while continuously saying "Wow...Wow...Wow." He just simply couldn't take his eyes off of her. After a few minutes of staring, hugging, and holding back tears, the two of them walked out of the room to join the rest of the family.
In my opinion, this idea was amazing and as you can see by the photo, his expression is perfect. Speaking as a father, I often think about my own daughter's wedding, wonder what it would be like, and silently hope that we can have some special moments like this. To my future brides, consider this idea with your own fathers because, I can tell you, nothing means more to a father than his little girl. So, having a special moment like this can add a unique twist to your wedding day and also give you priceless photos to cherish forever.
Cheers and happy Friday everyone!
