Good Morning and Happy Friday! We're gearing up for another [FRAMED] moment from past weddings so grab your coffee and buckle up. This moment is from earlier in 2015 at Ellen and Josh's Wedding in Carroll, IA and involves a special surprise wedding band for Ellen during the first meet. Lets dive in! The morning of the wedding was moving just as you would expect. Ellen got her hair done, makeup, and worked her way into her dress which looked stunning by the way. The first meet was imminent and, after an immediate search of the church grounds, we decided that a meeting in the vineyards behind the church would look great on the gloomy morning.
Ellen and Josh had decided on a slightly different variation of the first meet and went for a balloon reveal instead of the typical tap on the shoulder. So, we moved Josh in position and went through the instructions with him – advising him to keep his eyes closed because the slight breeze made the balloons a little unpredictable. After Josh was squared away, we went inside the church to get Ellen out to see her groom.
We led Ellen out to the vineyard and sent her on her way down an aisle while dashing into position to get their reactions. Ellen gave the word and Josh released the balloons — immediately rendered speechless by the beautiful bride that stood before him. The two dashed toward each other and embraced in moments of pure joy and disbelief. After a few more kisses and some prolonged stares, Josh revealed the ace up his sleeve, so to speak.
Apparently, Ellen had always admired a wedding band to accompany her ring, but from the beginning Josh had always argued against it. He often used excuses like, "It's not necessary," or, "It's too expensive." However, on this special day, he surprised Ellen by pulling out a ring box from his jacket and presenting her with the wedding band she had been longing for. Immediately, her face lit up even more and she squealed with excitement as she tried to hold back the tears. Ever so gracefully, Josh slid the ring on her finger – a perfect fit. The wedding band looked stunning alongside the ring...but nowhere near as stunning as this elated bride.
I love moments like this because they're not just completely unexpected, but because the reactions make priceless photographs. When I'm shooting, I always strive for raw, natural photographs the are incremental to telling the story and with these shots, we hit the jackpot. Nothing can compare to the element of surprise...and a happy bride.
