I can safely say that this wedding was one of my favorites — not just this year, but all of all time. I remember sitting down with Lauren and her mom at their house on a beautiful stretch of land on the outskirts of West Des Moines. They began to tell me the plans for the wedding — which started with them saying, "The ceremony site will be by the lake on our property where we will build some seating and the reception will be at the Flynn Barn at Living History Farms." My jaw dropped and I knew that it was going to be beautiful. The reality, in fact, was much more than even I could've imagined. When I showed up the morning of the wedding, it was business as usual. The girls were joking, laughing, doing hair and makeup, and drinking an impressive amount of mimosas. The atmosphere was light and carefree — as it should be on a wedding day. Eventually, I left the girls to see what the guys were up to and, like the girls, they were having a good start with pizza, beer, and football. When we headed back to the house, it was time for the first meet and someone threw out the idea of having the bride standing on the dock and the best man rowing the groom towards her. Brilliant.
After that beautiful moment, the day seemed to fly by. We ran around on their beautiful property grabbing portraits before heading to the opposite side of the small lake for an amazing outdoor ceremony complete with wooden benches, acoustic guitar, and a certain confetti mishap that you can read about [here]. The barn reception was decorated in a beautiful country-vintage theme and featured great music, delicious food, and a table of decadent desserts that got everyone's mouth watering. Guests drank, danced, and beer-ponged the night away until after midnight when we all congratulated the happy couple and said farewell.
As I said before, Jeff and Lauren's wedding was one of my all-time favorites. It's hard to top a fun, relaxing day filled with so many wonderful things and warm-hearted people. They certainly know how to throw a great party and make you feel welcome. I'm proud to share this wedding and wish them a lifetime of happy years together.
