Today I'm proud to share a wedding that was one of my last and favorites from 2016. I had never met Naomi and Derek before the wedding day, but I could tell from our phone conversations that it was going to be something truly special. From the moment we met, it was like I was working with old friends; and both of them had unwavering faith in me to capture their wedding day to its fullest potential.
I had gotten up early that morning and drove around the city to scout some locations for a first meet/portraits and ended up finding a beautiful little area near the river. The first meet blew me away as I watched the emotions unfold when they saw each other for the first time that day and read heartfelt letters on the railroad bridge. When the tears had dried and the emotions settled, we then made our way over to the Cedar Rapids library for a stunning rooftop portrait session as the sun went down before making our way to the hotel convention center for the wedding ceremony.
When the two were finally joined as man and wife, they celebrated with family and friends over cocktails before heading out to the reception at a great little restaurant called Cobble Hill. The interior was gorgeous — dim lighting, aged brick walls, and rich, distressed wood. The intimate environment made a beautiful setting for a great meal, touching speeches, and some late night partying fueled by their live band. All in all, the day was absolutely perfect and I'm so proud to have worked with these two and captured their story.
