[FRAMED] Uptown Funk
Woo-hoo! Friday's here and you know what that means...it's time for another [FRAME]. This selection features a dance that happened a week ago at Ellen and Josh's wedding in Carroll, IA. This installment is called...The Uptown Funk. Lets dive in. For this week's post, I'm going to rewind a bit and go to the week of the wedding. Monday night, I called Ellen to talk to her about the wedding that Saturday. We worked through the timeline, got our questions answered, and essentially made a play-by-play for the big day. Eventually, I got to the question of, "Are there any things I should be aware of that you would like photographed?" "Yes!" Ellen replied. She then informed me that during the reception, they have a live band, who has learned to play Uptown Funk...you know, that new song by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Anyways, she said that since the band learned to play it, they were going to do a performance with the whole wedding party right after all the first dances wrapped up. I just remember thinking one thing...awesome.
Fast forward to the day of the wedding and we were having an amazing time. The ceremony was so beautiful and afterwards we ventured to Swan Lake park to get some beautiful portraits of not only the wedding party, but Ellen and Josh. In about 45 minutes, we wrapped everything up and headed over to the Carrollton Inn to get the party started at the reception. I ran in first to frantically photograph details and get some candids before the wedding party did their grand entrance. Ellen and Josh charged into the room only to be greeted by an onslaught of applause and cheers from their guests. The couple cut the cake and took their seats just as the final touches were being done for dinner.
After a delicious dinner, the microphone was passed around and members of Ellen and Josh's wedding party gave their toasts to the happy couple. A short amount of time later, it was time to dance. Ellen and Josh took the floor first and danced beautifully with all their family members watching in awe. Immediately after the bride and groom had their dance, Ellen and her Father took the floor and had a beautiful father-daughter moment as they swayed and twirled to the music. As a surprise, Josh had agreed to dance with his mother and they took the floor last to round out our special dances. Just as the guests were gearing up for an open dance floor, there was an announcement.
"Good evening everyone! Before we open the dance floor to everyone, the wedding party has arranged a special performance for all of you. Tonight, they'll be performing Uptown Funk."
The audience looked on in stunned silence. The wedding party swarmed the dance floor. The band took their positions. Uptown Funk began to play.
The wedding party sprang into action as twisted, shook, and grinded to the music — just like in the music video. They moved around performing the signature moves and the audience went nuts. Everyone in the room immediately jumped to their feet and began clapping and cheering. It was so crazy, I had to stand on tables to get shots! With the dance floor surrounded the wedding party kept on going until the last part of the song which ended with Ellen and Josh sharing a long kiss with the sound of applause drowning out the band.
All things considered — it was epic. Up to this point, I had always seen videos online of wedding parties performing dances, but never in real life. I'm happy to say that this not only lives up to the hype, but blows it completely out of the water. Their rendition of Uptown Funk was flawless and apparently had an effect because the dance floor was filled the entire night. It was one hell of a party and a great way to celebrate such an amazing couple. I'm so fortunate to have been there and I can't wait to share their amazing day on here soon. Until then, thanks for reading, be sure to come back often for new work, and don't forget about my Friday [FRAMES].
Cheers and Happy Friday!
